Lisa Maki’s unexpected journey took her from the outskirts of Puget Sound (where we discovered she grew up, in her words, a “Seattle Hillbilly”), to Silicon Valley. Today she is CEO of a company that helps people find profoundly useful information about how to find and pay for health care. Her company, PokitDok, arose from her personal experience with a spinal injury and her 6-month search for information on physicians, treatment and costs. While at Microsoft, Lisa learned to marry empathy and a deep understanding of consumer need with the development of technology for real people. She can talk semantic intelligence and predictive analytics all day, but on today’s show she brought her wit, wisdom and insider knowledge about making healthcare accessible to consumers.
